Richie and Brooke joined the staff as a husband and wife team at Hillview in September of 2011. Richie is serving as an Associate Minister, focusing on families. Brooke is serving as the Children’s Minister.
Richie and Brooke both graduated from Portland Christian School in 2002. Brooke went on to Indiana University Southeast, and Richie to the University of Louisville. After Brooke went into the banking industry while Richie into the restaurant business. They were also serving at the Crossing Christian Church in New Albany. Brooke was the early childhood leader, and Richie served in the band. They had a son in 2008, Grant. While feeling lead into ministry, they were never able to pursue it further.
That all changed in January 2011. The birth of their second son, Eli brought great joy to their family after losing Richie’s mother in September 2010. After a rough 5 days in and out of the hospital, Eli suddenly took a turn for the worst. He stopped breathing and was rushed to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville. There they discovered a massive hemorrhage in his brain, and he underwent a major brain surgery. He survived the surgery, but the next day they were not able to keep his blood pressure up, and had to be taken off life support.
After the death of Eli, Richie and Brooke felt the presence of God in their life more than ever. They began to answer God’s call to ministry. Both quit their jobs and desired to serve God in every aspect of their life. Brooke went back to Portland Christian School to serve as a preschool teacher. Richie went back to school to be a minister, at Louisville Bible College. He began waiting tables at Morton’s The Steakhouse, to provide for his family while going to school.
Then in August they received a call from Earl Mullins Jr. whom they both had known for a very long time; asking if they would be interesting in coming to serve at Hillview. Immediately they both knew this was where God was calling them to go. They are both very proud to be serving God at Hillview Christian Church.
